Good morning everybody and welcome to another episode of 5 minutitos with Profe. Today I want to talk about a beautiful moment that happened in my young coaching career. I got my first win. It was a beautiful game. It was a beautiful day in St. George, Utah. We're playing against Utah Tech. And your Tigers, the Pacific Tigers, played a very good game of footy. I think it started with the preparation. We had an alumni come into the team room because there was a thunder delay. So I told him, hey, come meet the team. He spoke very well. I think that fired the guys up. We also had some controversy with the fifth years being rescinded for some players across the country. And we suffered one of them because maybe our potentially most important player. And our captain, who I named captain that day, was deemed ineligible. And so we had a lot of controversy, lightning delay. We had lost. We were robbed against Utah Valley. Like it was a blatant red card from the goalkeeper. I don't know what the refs were seeing. I don't know how they're gonna justify it. Nonetheless, we move on to Utah Tech with a good mentality, good preparation, good recovery, good good team meals, incredible team activity and bonding. And so we felt very good about what that looked like in terms of preparation as a coaching staff, the scout. So we we did an excellent job on that day with with that regard. Now Utah Tech's not known to be a good good school in terms of football, but neither are we. We were p picked last in the WCC. So we have a lot of things going against us. We're young. You know, we we've had very little experience with the 11 that we've put together on the field, and so it's gonna take time. Nonetheless, we started the game 2-0, and people think that 2-0 is the worst score in soccer. And I don't know how many times it's happened to me, whether I'm losing 2-0 or winning 2-0, and it somehow turns around. Um so it's always very interesting to feel that result and know that you can come back. And it is a momentum shifter. You score the first, they're on their heels, you're on your heels or on your toes now, and so it's very interesting. And then we score a banger. I think the kid was trying to cross it, but ended up going into the goal. Like he like chipped the goalie, it was very nice. Um, then we have this young freshman from the San Jose Earthquakes who man, he did tremendously well that day. He's fast, he's rapid. He scores a maybe the goal of the week. I think he was robbed of freshman of the week. Consider he scored two goals and a in a loss and a win on the road, but whatever. Um, and then one of our seniors did a had a senior moment in scoring a clutch penalty kick. Um And then it ended, and there was a moment of peace, or like like a deep breath sigh, where I felt like we accomplished something very well. Like I think that that first win as a head coach might be a milestone for everybody, and it felt really good, and the next thing you know, I'm getting a bucket full of water and ice poured on me, and and that just shows that you know hopefully everybody feels this way, but you know, the guys are willing to work hard for me, and and and hopefully they know that I'm willing to work hard for them, and we do a lot of things for them, and so um I feel very good. It was a great moment with my staff. They work so hard, I have a lot of love for them. They're my good friends, they're good people, they're good men, and so I'm just excited for the years ahead with those guys, with this team that's very young. Um, I think the sky's the limit, but specifically for for the first win. I remember my father calling me and saying, damn, like this this win has to be for him because he taught me the game. Um he taught me the game, and then once the game's over, he's the first one to come over and console me and talk to me. So shout out to my father, Jose. Uh, and obviously, I also dedicated the win to my mother who ah man, there she's a beautiful soul. She has a lot of things going on, but she still calls and makes sure I'm okay. And then my sister, who's there with her nephews, I love her dearly, and then my brother, the guy who who made me a good football player, because you know I would play with him and his friends five years younger and still keep up and hang and and do well and nutmeg those guys, so that confidence that I have I think comes a lot from that. So that win was from my family. Um and then I had a very special person supporting me there. We'll talk about that later. But she knows who she is, and I just the final reminder is that if you find your purpose in a good career and you're going to work every day feeling fulfilled, you could then be whole and be present for others. And I think we lose sight on that in the rat race, the nine to five cycle. But with my first win, I was reward, I was reminded of the reward that comes with filling your cup so that then you can pour onto others. And if you live your dream and you live your purpose, you will be fulfilled going to work, regardless of how you feel. Stepping on the field is everything, and I'm just expressing gratitude at the end of this. Um, because without the people that got me there, I wouldn't be there, and I'm happy where I am. I just have to continue working on other areas of my life so that I could be whole in my approach as a leader of men and become a worthy example. Nonetheless, I got my first win. The games after that have not gone that well, but we persist. We're 1-1 and 2. Check us out on ESPN. Go Tigers. I love my job, I love Pacific, I love my staff, I love my team, I love my people.
