Plus a rant on my immigration experience
Good afternoon everybody, and welcome to another episode of 5 minutitos with profe. You would not guess where I am at. I am back at El Chante. Beautiful, beautiful lake. Right now, and I think it's because a storm is coming. Is the water looks like glass. If I had a kayak right now, I would go take the nicest nap in the middle of this lake. But right here to my east, I see a big storm brewing. It's been a lot of rain here, lots of green, lots of beautiful, beautiful fishes, lots of beautiful birds. It's a nice place. I'll tell you this though, this place is magical. There's something in the air that's very, very magical. But it always takes me time to like sink into the relaxation that comes with being at this place. I always like the first hour, maybe two, I'm overwhelmed. And I just think maybe that's how we're constantly living. So I think everybody needs to find their own place, their own place where they can find their peace of mind, and just everything in general. I think it's important. Um make sure you find that place that's good for you. But lately I've been, you know, really reminiscing on what is home? Am I Mexican? Why am I trying so hard to be an American citizen? Do I want a green card? Do I want to go through the hassle? And I'm thinking of this because I'm back here trying to get a visa. And I'm conflicted because it's been 20 years that I've been in America legally. My dad, an independent business owner, my mom, an educational teacher, who's retired, put three kids to college. My brother's not married to an American citizen who they have a baby. My sister's married to an American citizen. They have a baby. And you know, we we're just decent people, we're decent human beings. So I'm just curious as to why, well, like where's the merit-based citizenship or whatever Americans want to call it? Um, it's just interesting. And look, I don't feel deserving of anything. I'll keep proving my worth and and not that I have to prove it to anybody, but I have a good job. I am a college soccer coach, I have a master's degree. Um, I'm not perfect. I'll never admit to the the idea of being perfect or close to it. But I sit back at this lake and realize why am I why did my family try to so hard to run away from this place? We have mangoes in the back, we could have, you know, grown mangoes, we have avocados, we can we have a well that we need to dig up. It's just it's interesting how I find myself at home here, and everywhere else on earth that I've lived Rome, Mexico City, LA, Stockton, don't really feel like home. San Jose, San Jose may be the closest thing to it. Guadalajara doesn't, but here, this lake, there's something about this lake. Maybe it's because I have my most vulnerable and most authentic version of myself here. A joyful hooligan who ran around with a slingshot, and all he wanted to do was have fun, be adventurous, be relentless in the pursuit of that fun thing we were after, whether it was catching snakes, making friends with a donkey, playing soccer with the people of the town. Just I always find myself at peace here. So much so that I texted my friends from college asking if they wanted to do a retreat here every two years, and I'll host them. We'll camp. We'll do all these fun things. Kayaking, we can go hiking, we can go to a TMESCAR, which is a old Native American, you know, relaxation/slash cleansing uh practice where you go on a TP and it's warm with stones, kind of like a sauna. Yeah, it's something like that. I don't know, something about this place makes me want to bring people here as well. So I want to start planning every two years a retreat here. We'll see what my sister says since she's leaving here with two kids, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind the company. They're cool kids, they're really cool kids. And ideally, that's the idea. That's what we used to do. We could we couldn't afford vacations, and so we would come here and just invite people, like our closest friends. There'd be like five, seven kids running around. My cousins had people over, be up to like 20 kids playing soccer here, hide and go seek. Chaos. But it was about being together, it's about spending time and finding joy in the quiet serenity that is this lake. El Chante, thank you, thank you for being magical, Jokotepec. El lago de Chapala, thank you. Thank you. Thank you for being a place where I can feel at home. El Chante. And that's it for today, folk. Sorry I didn't post for a long time. Just been busy trying to find my soul, and I found it. I feel good. I feel really good. Try sobriety, people. You ever try to just try to get high on your supply? Try it. Really try it. You start feeling things. When you're sad, you're sad. When you're happy, you're happy. Just be genuine, be intentional. It's nice. Try it.
