or something along those lines….
pressure can be a good thing and a good tool to use when used correctly!
Good morning everybody and welcome to another episode of 5 minutitos with Profe. Today I woke up really early. Woke up at 5 in the morning. And I think I was filled with excitement of the things I need to do this week. This week has to be a very, very productive week. And I think I woke up this way because the last thing I listened to last night was a short like YouTube video, like podcast of the interview with um Robert Green, I think his name is, who's the author of 48 Laws of Power and among other really good books. And he was talking about how pressure is good. You know, and you always hear the sayings, oh pressure builds diamonds, and and all that stuff. I agree with it. Let me tell you why recently I I didn't hit a wall emotionally or physically. It was more so that I worked so hard for two and a half months and got so many things done that when I needed other people to do work, so like you send scholarship paperwork and all that stuff, is I ran out of things to do. And so that's where you know you go back to what's next, like what's the next idea, what's the next plan. And so the pressure keeps you hungry, it keeps you motivated, and it keeps you on your toes. And it's something that it sat with me as I started the first part of this walk this morning because pressure, you know, like Jose Mourinho once said, pressure, well, we're just footballers. Pressure is the person who doesn't know where the next meal is gonna come. So I don't want to sound cynical or um insensitive to people's reality because that's real pressure. He's right. You know, there's a pressure that we don't want, um, but the pressure I'm talking about is the pressure specifically driven by our goals and ambitions, and that you gotta lean into that. You really want to have that be the driving force because if it's something that you want to do, you'll do anything for it. So if you say if you set crazy timelines andor crazy goals full of ambition for the thing that you're working on, you have to put pressure on yourself because whatever it is that you're doing, you want to do it to the best of your ability. And so I think it's important to remember that pressure is good and pressure is privilege because there are people going through real pressure scenarios, people, you know, who are in in starvation, people who don't know where the next bill's gonna come, unemployed. That's real, real pressure. And so, you know, that's that's flight or flight, that's survival. And to me that pressure is, you know, it's sometimes it's going to happen, but that's not the pressure that we all necessarily want to thrive in. That's actually pressure that can sometimes get you in trouble for rash decisions or or things like that. But the difference here is that this is for your goals, for a driven purpose, because you should want that pressure. If you're if you really love something and you're willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that dream happens, it you're already putting pressure on yourself. But then you take every task, whether minimal or a very large task, with it with importance. Like you you trick yourself into thinking this has to be done by tomorrow. Even though it can't be done by tomorrow, watch how hard you will work. And so there's a root of pressure that comes from just survival, flight instincts, and all that. But this is, I don't know, I think pressure is good. I think you you need it to thrive, I think you need it to be able to delegate and get people to help you. And so that's been an approach. I got an approach last week where I put pressure on them. Um I talked a lot, I talked about the past and the culture, like what is culture. I put a lot of pressure into these guys, and the response was very positive. So it's also a good coaching mechanism, right? The environment matters. Um I think we need to not lose sight of what our goals and ambitions are and continue applying pressure to them because that's the way you reach them, that's the way you achieve timelines in the fastest fashion. As a matter of fact, I love pressure. I used to always tell the boys at UCLA that you gotta love the pressure, you gotta love it. Especially here in the world of sports, you gotta love whatever it is the coach is demanding of you, whatever it is that your teammates are demanding of you, whatever it is that the opponents and the travel and and and the fans. You gotta love the pressure. You gotta love the pressure. And if you wanna have a taste of playing professional soccer, you're gonna get pressure because now it's your money, now it's your head, now it's your livelihood. That's real pressure when it comes to the sporting events. Yeah, that's what I've got today. Feel the pressure, be the pressure. And I think the last thing is to call somebody new this week. Call somebody new who haven't you called in a long time. Write a letter. You never know how far a letter will take you. Make sure you write a letter. Write somebody. Alright, I'm out. Cinco minutitos with profe on a Monday morning in Stockton, California. Take care.
